AIADMK MLA meets Karuna, removed from party forum post

Chennai: An AIADMK MLA on Friday met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, an action which led to his removal from a party post in the second such instance in a week.

K Rajendran, representing Jayamkondam, met Karunanidhi in the presence of Union IT Minister A Raja and said he had requested him to implement welfare measures in his constituency as "I no more wanted to be a puppet MLA."

"Four years are over and I no more want to be a puppet MLA. My constituency voters expect basic amenities and my conscience is pricking me," he told reporters here.

Rajendran said he discussed various issues with Karunanidhi, including setting up of a lignite power plant. He also thanked him for certain other projects announced.

The MLA said the Karunanidhi government had hiked the Minimum Support Price of sugarcane from Rs 775 per tonne during Jayalalithaa's regime to Rs 1,550 at present.

Shortly after the MLA's meeting with her bete noire Karunanidhi, the AIADMK chief removed him from the post of secretary of the panchayat level secretary of J Jayalalithaa Peravai (Forum).

Kovilpatti AIADMK MLA L Radhakrishnan had met Karunanidhi for a similar purpose on February 5. He too was removed from the forum post a week ago.
