New Delhi: A senior BJP councillor on Wednesday alleged that a representative of a private firm approached her with a bribe offer for allowing it to put up unauthorised hoardings, after which the MCD said it will file an FIR and vowed to bring down all illegal signboards within a day.

The issue was raised by deputy chairman of standing committee Rajni Abbi at a meeting of the panel. An enraged Abbi said the man came to her house to make the offer and urged the municipal commissioner to take strong action against the agency concerned.

She also showed photographs of several unauthorised hoardings and said the civic body was losing crores of rupees due to these. Chairman of standing committee R K Singhal directed the Commissioner to ensure that all illegal hoardings in the city are brought down within "24 hours".

Mayor Kanwar Sain told reporters that he has received a complaint from Abbi. "She said an advertiser named Sanjay Gupta approached her and offered money so that she refrains from raising issues related to illegal hoardings. After she gives the complaint in writing, we will file an FIR," he said.
