Ahmedabad: After hiking prices in Gujarat, India's largest food product marketing organisation, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells its products under the brand 'Amul' has decided to hike milk prices in Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata.

"We have decided to hike milk prices of our brands 'Taaza' and 'Gold' by Re 1 and Rs 2 per litre, respectively with effect from February 12, in New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai," GCMMF Chief General Manager R S Sodhi said.

The hike in milk prices will come into effect from February 12 in all the three metros simultaneously.

The Federation has cited rise in input cost of raw materials like cattle feed as a major reason behind the hike in milk prices.

GCMMF supplies nearly 27-28 lakh litres of milk per day in all the three metropolitan cities, Sodhi said.

According to the GCMMF member, federation members like Banaskantha dairy, Mehsana, Kaira, Vadodara and Surat have increased milk procurement price in the past and were paying an average price of Rs 330 per kg of fat, which is 18 per cent higher than last year.

With a network of 13 district, GCMMF has daily average milk collection of 8.7 million litres and touched a sales turnover of Rs 67,113 million last fiscal, the federation official said.

Total milk procurement by the Federation's member unions during 2008-09 averaged at 8.7 million kg per day, showing a quantum growth of 14.87 per cent over 7.6 million kg per day achieved during 2007-08, the federation portal stated.

Sales of Amul Milk in pouches have grown by 44 per cent in value terms, it added.
