Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Government has
invited France to set up food processing and agro-based
industries in the state for helping the farming community.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah made this plea to French
Minister for Foreign Trade Anne-Marie Idrac when she led a
12-member delegation to him at the Secretariat here on Thursday.
The delegation discussed trade opportunities in the
state and mutual co-operation, a release from the Chief
Ministers Office (CMO) said.
The Chief Minister told the delegation members that
Andhra Pradesh was a leading agrarian state with a strong base
not only in agriculture but also in horticulture, sericulture,
livestock and fisheries, it said.
"These areas provided exciting opportunities for
technical co-operation between the governments of France and
Andhra Pradesh. We are looking forward for an active
co-operation and collaboration with the Government of France,"
Rosaiah added.
The Chief Minister also told the delegation that 30
French companies were working in the state employing about
6,000 people.
He recalled PSA Peugeot Citroen's interest in setting
up an automotive manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh and
requested the French Minister to pursue the issue with her
government.
