Assam Rifles commanders meet to discuss NE security

Shillong: A three-day conference of all commanders and senior officers of the Assam Rifles began here on Thursday at the forces headquarters that will focus on key policy, conceptual and doctrinal issues in the light of the prevailing security scenario in the North East.

The conference, chaired by Director General Lt Gen KS Yadava, will take a holistic review of the security environment, status of operational readiness and also the appraisal of operational situation in the region, an Assam Rifles spokesman said.

The other aspects of the conference includes force modernization and administrative and logistics aspects of the force, he said.

The setting up of the proposed commando battalions and intelligence units of the force will also come up for discussion, besides the civic action programmes of the force.

In his inaugural address, Lt Gen Yadava called upon the officers to carry out an honest and critical self appraisal for long term betterment of the force.

Maintaining that the force, in its 175 years of existence, has always been able to achieve its operational goals, Yadava said, "The challenge in front of the commanders is to improve the efficiencies further."

He called upon the commanders to be more adaptive in their style of command in view of the changing aspirations of the soldier and the local populace in present socio-economic milieu.
