Bangalore court awards death sentence to sex maniac

Bangalore, Oct 29: A fast track court here on Oct 27 awarded the death penalty to a "sexual maniac, rapist and serial killer" convicted for raping and murdering a housewife.

While pronouncing the judgement, judge Sukanya upheld the prosecution's contention that the case in which Umesh Reddy was involved was a "rarest among rare cases and warranted the death penalty".

The judge also slapped Rs 25,000 fine on Reddy, who was allegedly involved in a series of murder and rape cases.

He escaped from police custody while being brought to court in connection with a case in 1996. Later that year, he raped and murdered a 35-year-old woman in the presence of her six-year-old daughter, police said.

Reddy drew pleasure from wearing the undergarments of his victims, whom he raped before brutally hacking to death, police said.

He has spent about 13 years in jail for various crimes.

Four booked for raping minor girl in Haryana

Bhiwani, Oct 29: Four youths have been booked on charges of abduction and raping a minor Dalit girl in a running car in the district, police said on Oct 27.

The case has been registered on the complaint of the victim belonging to Dadma village in the district, but no arrest has been made so far in this connection, they said.

In her complaint, the girl had alleged that four persons abducted her in a car and physically abused her for the next four hours.

They later left her near an abandoned road with warning, she claimed.

The girl have been medically examined and police have launched a manhunt to nab them.

Minor boy dies after sodomy in UP

Allahabad, Oct 29: In a tragic incident, a six-year-old boy died on Oct 27 night at a private hospital in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh after he was allegedly sodomised by his neighbours, police said on Oct 28.

The incident occurred in Neem Sarai area, where a nursery class student was allegedly sodomised by Suraj (12) and Rajdeep (14) on Thursday.

The victim was rushed to S R N Medical College in a critical condition. Later, he was sent to a private hospital, where he died.

Vishva Hindu Parishad activists staged a 'dharna' in protest against the incident.

Meanwhile, the accused have been arrested, the police added.

Minor girl rescued after being raped in Haryana

Sonepat, Oct 29: A 14-year-old girl, who had gone missing from Saboli village of the district, was rescued and her alleged abductor was arrested on Oct 28, police said.

A medical examination has confirmed that the girl, a class IX student, had been raped, they said.

The girl had been missing since Sept 10 and her parents had lodged a complaint against one Vijay hailing from Laxmi Nagar, Delhi.

The girl was rescued when police intercepted Vijay who was on his way to Narela in Delhi yesterday, they said.

On interrogation, Vijay told police that he had married the girl but failed to produce any evidence in this regard.

Earlier though the police had carried out surprise raids at Jhansi, Aligarh, Bareili and other places they failed to trace the girl and her abductor.

Man gets 10 years for minor’s rape

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 29: A man was yesterday sentenced to ten years imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

Additional district sessions judge B P Vishkarmi also sentenced Sanjay an additional three years jail term under the Scheduled Caste Atrocities Prevention Act since the victim is a Dalit.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6000 on the accused out of which Rs 5,000 would be given to the victim.

The girl was gang-raped by Sanjay along with two others, Rohtash and Pushpendra in Saharpur village here on March 12, 2001. Since both of them are minors, their cases have been transferred to a juvenile court.

Earlier, police had registered a case against the trio based on a complaint filed by the victim's father.
