Patna: The number of committees of Bihar
Legsilative Council has been reduced to 23 from 38 with
parties allocated chairmanship of the committees as per their
respective strength, Legislative Council chairman Tarakant Jha
said on Friday.
Talking to reporters here after taking over as the
chairman of the Council, Tarakant Jha said "There was
unanimous decision during an all-party meeting to reduce the
number of the committees and we have done accordingly...A new
tradition is being started as the parties have been
accomodated as per their respective strength in the
75-member house."
Jha said that he had tried his best to trim the number and
expressed hope that the number would be further pruned.
The Council's presiding officer said that he had consulted
all the rules and norms which were being followed in Lok Sabha
and Rajya Sabha for the constitution of the committees.
He said that he would request the government for
allocating more time to carry out more debates and discussions
on budget and other legislations in the upper house.
An implementation committee has been constituted which
would oversee the progress of the government's assurances and
other matters.
