New Delhi: CBI today arrested the General
Manager of Brahmaputra Board in Guwahati for allegedly
demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from a
complainant.
Accused Amarjoti Baruah was arrested by the CBI following
a complaint by a contractor.
"The accused had demanded an illegal gratification from
the complainant for releasing the work order of over Rs 1.10
crore relating to construction of RCC Porqurpine Screen on
River Dibang in Tinsukia District, Assam," a CBI spokesperson
said.
Aggrieved by the constant demand of bribe, the contractor
had lodged a complaint with the CBI, the official said.
"The CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red
handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs one lakh from
the complainant," he said adding that searches are going on
the premises of accused.
