Patna: A Patna Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced former minister Surajbhan Singh to life imprisonment in the sensational Brij Bihari murder case.
Apart from Suraj Bhan, the other eight accused were also held guilty and except sitting MLA Shashi Kumar Rai, all were awarded life sentences. Rai was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the court. The guilty include two sitting MLAs and one former MP. A fine of Rs 20,000 was also imposed on all the 9 convicts.
The incident dates back to 1998 when sitting Bihar MP Brij Bihari was gunned down by heavily armed men inside the premises of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna while he was on an evening walk.
The slain minister's widow Rama Devi, a BJP MP from Sheohar, was the complainant in the case.
The seven others, who have been sentenced to life are Vijay Kumar Shukla, ex-MLA Rajen Tiwari, Mantu Tiwari, Lalan Singh, Capt Sunil Singh, Mukesh Singh and Ramniranjan Choudhary.
