Rajkot, July 04: Congress MP Kunvarji Bavaliya has demanded the suspension of the superintendent and ophthalmologist of Guru Govindsinh Hospital in Jamnagar for their alleged negligence due to which nearly 20 eyes that were donated were left unattended for many hours.

Bavaliya, in his letter to Gujarat Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas, alleged that despite adequate equipments at the hospital the authority did not use it properly, rendering them unfit for transplant.

He also claimed that the superintendent B D Gupta and ophthalmologist, Mayank Acharya had a poor service record.

When Gupta was head of post-mortem department several incident of eye theft from dead bodies occurred, while the ophthalmologist Mayank Acharya was transferred for his negligence on duty, the MP said in the letter.

The Congress MP alleged that there are several other complaints against hospital doctors but the state government does not take action against them.

The donated eyes were surgically removed between June 8-25 and the Jamnagar hospital received them on June 30, where it remained unattended for nearly 12 hours.
