New Delhi: Congress on Tuesday announced four
candidates to contest the assembly bye-elections in Uttar
Pradesh scheduled for August 18.
Sohlat Ali will be the party candidate from Moradabad
West constituency, Satya Narain Kanojia will contest from
Malihabad, Sanjay Singh from Bidhuna and Shabi Haidar from
Morna assembly segment.
A release by senior leader Oscar Fernandes said Congress
President Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of the
four nominees.
The bye-elections will be the first test of the
political strength of the state's ruling BSP and Congress
after the latter's impressive performance in recent Lok
Sabha elections in which it won 21 seats, its best ever
performance in the state in the last two decades.
