Yavatmal: Senior Congress leader and five- time Lok Sabha member from Yavatmal Uttamrao Patil has said he wont's contest any election in future.

"I won't contest any election in future and shall remain loyal to Congress," he said while addressing a special meeting of his supporters and local Congress leaders at his native place Loni yesterday.

"The Congress party has given me everything and hence I will never do anything to defame the party or bring defeat to its candidates."

Patil said he had got opportunity to work under late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, and under the leadership of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

He asked his followers to work unitedly for the victory of all the seven Congress-NCP candidates in the district in the October 13 Assembly polls.

Patil suffered his first-ever defeat in Lok Sabha polls in 2004 when BJP's Haribhau Rathod trounced him.

In 2009, Patil was ignored by the party in ticket distribution and Rathod, now in Congress, was renominated, but he lost to Shiv Sena's Bhavana Gawali.
