New Delhi: Dumping both Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan, Congress on Wednesday announced a list of 11 candidates for assembly bye-elections in Bihar, where it is going it alone.

Naresh Ram will be the party candidate from Bagaha assembly segment, Shiv Ratan Yadav from Nautan, Veena Devi from Begusarai and Umesh Yadav from Triveniganj.

The other candidates are Mehboob Ali Kaiser from Simari Bhaktiarpur, Mohd Hannan from Araria, Geeta Shankar (Dhoraiya), Mohd Sahjad (Munger), Sanjeev Prasad Tony (Phulwari), Girija Singh (Ghosi) and Fakir Chandra Das (Bodh Gaya).

The announcement was made by AICC in-charge of the state Jagdish Tytler here.

Bye-elections, which will be held on September 15, were necessitated in the state following the election of the MLAs as MPs in the last Lok Sabha polls.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the UPA alliance in the state broke down over seat allocation and Congress fought it alone, winning two of the 40 seats in the state.

A section of the Congress in the state has been demanding that the party severe its ties with the RJD and go it alone in the polls.

Assembly elections are slated to be held in October next year in the JDU-BJP ruled state.
