Lucknow: A day after SP leader Amar Singh blamed "over confidence" of its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for the party's loss in Firozabad Lok Sabha by-poll, state unit president Akhilesh Yadav maintained that it was money power and BJP's vote transfer which helped Congress wrest the seat.
Refusing to be drawn into the controversy triggered by Singh's remarks, Akhilesh today said that he had spelled out the reasons of the defeat after the results were announced early November.
"It was the money power of the Congress as well as the BJP's strategic vote transfer to it which helped the Congress victory," Akhilesh, whose wife Dimple was made the party nominee from Firozabad after he had vacated the seat, alleged here.
He, however, refused to comment on Amar Singh's statement.
Amar Singh yesterday blamed the "over confidence" of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family responsible for the SP chief's daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav's loss to Congress nominee Raj Babbar.
Meanwhile, the party today released a list of 29 candidates for the coming Vidhan Parishad elections due for January.
Elections for 36 local bodies' constituencies of the Upper House in the state is due for January.
