Hyderabad: Terror operative Mohammed
Amjad, arrested for allegedly conspiring a blast in the
Commissioner's Task Force office here in 2005, was on Wednesday sent
to five-day police custody by a local court.
Amjad alias Khaja, the south India chief of Harkat-ul-
Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI-Bangladesh), is under judicial remand
till February 1.
According to police, the 27-year-old, arrested in
Hyderabad on January 18, has close links with terror groups
like LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Indian Mujahideen.
The SIT wing of Hyderabad police had sought 10-day
custody for interrogation of Khaja. The additional chief
metropolitan magistrate granted five-day police remand from
tomorrow. The public prosecutor had earlier informed the court
that custodial interrogation of Khaja was very much needed as
he was the main conspirator of the bomb blast.
Defence lawyer Abdul Azeem objected saying the SIT has
already completed the investigation into the blast case and
trial is going on in another court.
"When probe was already completed, there was no need
of police custody of his client," Azeem argued.
However, the public prosecutor said that Khaja has
established wide network through his two e-mails and police
has to get their passwords besides details of his passports.
The terror operative has confessed that he has passports of
Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Khaja, who was absconding after the 2005 blast, has
also confessed that he arrived in India to carry out terror
activities and create panic particularly in Hyderabad, the
prosecutor said.
