Ahmedabad: An MLA of Gujarat's ruling BJP today demanded resignation of the Advocate General (AG) for giving an opinion on land allotment to Nirma Ltd for its cement plant while a legal firm, in which he is allegedly a partner, was representing the same company.

BJP MLA from Mahuva constituency in Bhavnagar district Kanubhai Kalasariya alleged Advocate General Kamal Trivedi had in 2007 given an opinion on the allocation of 268 hectares of land, which mostly constitutes water bodies, to Nirma Ltd for setting up cement plant at Padhiyarka village in Mahuva taluka.

"Based on Trivedi's opinion before the High Court, the government gave approval for giving the land to Nirma Ltd for industrial purpose," Kalasariya told mediapersons here.

"It was a case of conflict of interest. On one hand, he is appearing on behalf of Bhavnagar district collector, a respondent in our petition opposing land allocation to Nirma in HC, while counsels from his firm Trivedi & Gupta are appearing for Nirma Ltd, another respondent in our case," Kalasariya said.

"Therefore, if an Advocate General acts in this way, I demand that he (Trivedi) should resign from the post on moral grounds," he said, adding he has also sent a legal notice to Trivedi regarding this for which a reply was awaited.
