Ahmedabad: New president of Gujarat BJP unit will be elected on February 1 at a state executive meeting to be presided over by senior leader Gopinath Munde here, a party official said on Wednesday.

"We have completed appointments of ward presidents, block presidents and city and district presidents. Now, we will go for the election of state party president on February 1," said Bharatsinh Parmar, state BJP general secretary supervising the organisational polls in the state BJP.

Gopinath Munde will preside over the meeting to elect new president who will replace Puroshottam Rupala, who ended his three year term last December, he said.

According to party insiders, RC Faldu, MLA from Kalawad in Jamnagar district and chief whip of the ruling party in the state assembly, is the front runner for the party head's post while other contenders include senior leader Anant Dave, former minister Kaushik Patel, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and I K Jadeja.

Organisational revamping in the state party set up assumes significance as the state will have elections of local bodies including six municipal corporations, more than 20 district panchayats and more than 200 municipalities and block panchayats later this year.
