Ahmedabad, April 08: The special investigation team
(SIT), constituted by the Supreme Court to investigate 14
post-Godhra riots cases of 2002, commenced their investigation
by visiting Naroda Patia and Gulbarg Society today.

Raghavan spent almost entire morning visiting the sites,
sources in the police department said.
The team, which include former DGP of Uttar Pradesh C D
Sathpathy and three IPS from Gujarat -- Geeta Johri, Shivanand
Jha and Ashish Bhatia -- had an extensive meeting at
Meghaninagar police station after visiting the contentious
sites, police sources said.
In the Naroda Patia riot case, 89 people mainly of the
minority community were killed on February 28, 2002. While in
Gulbarg Society 38 people were killed including ex-Congress MP
Ehsan Jafri on the same day.
On March 26, the Supreme Court had directed the state
government to set up an sit within 10 days to "inquire and
investigate" the post-Godhra riot cases.
The SIT was also asked to investigate the Sabarmati train
carnage where the S6 coach of the train was burned, leaving 59
dead.
The SIT was in Gandhinagar yesterday to check out the
logistic arrangement made by the state government for the
team.
The other cases that the team will investigate include
Naroda Gaon, Sardarpura, ODH and Deepda Darwaja. The team has
to submit its report to the apex court within three months.
