Mumbai: CBI in the alleged bribery case involving Buta Singh's son Sarobjot Singh is recording the statement of the Bangalore-based 'Hawala' operator, who was to allegedly transfer the bribe money in Delhi.

Shyamlal Chaudhari's statement is being recorded since the past one week as a witness in the case, senior CBI officials told agency.

According to the investigating agency, Chaudhari was to receive the money from the arrested Hawala operators in Mumbai and was to transfer the money to Sarobjot in Delhi.

Chaudhari was brought to Mumbai from Bangalore last week and his statement is being recorded in the case as a witness, CBI officials said.

The CBI would also be recording National Commission for Scheduled Caste Buta Singh's statement in the case as a witness on September 10 in Delhi.

Sarobjot and three operators - Anup Kumar Begi, Madan Singh Solanki and Dhukh Singh Chauhan were arrested on July 31 for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs one crore from a Nashik-based contractor Ramrao Patil to close an atrocity case registered against him under the SC/ST Act.

Sarobjot was released on bail by a special CBI court in August.
