Mangaldoi (Assam): A powerful Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) was recovered from Khoirabari railway station in Assam's Udalguri district on Tuesday, police said.
The IED, weighing more than six kgs, was spotted near the station gangmen's office by railway personnel after which police was alerted immediately.
Army bomb experts rushed to the spot and the IED was defused later on.
In another case, police have recovered five kgs of TNT and arrested a linkman of a militant outfit from Udalguri yesterday.
The explosives were being carried by the linkman to be handed over to militants planning to carry out blasts in Guwahati and other towns in the state, police said.
This is the second IED recovered in the state in two consecutive days. A powerful 10 kgs IED was yesterday recovered from Sonitpur district near the Arunachal Pradesh border.
Police suspect that the IEDs have been planted by militants belonging to NDFB's Ranjan Daimary led anti-talk faction.
