Ranchi: The CBI has registered a
disproportionate assets case against an IAS officer from
Jharkhand who also served as Officer on Special Duty with a
former Governor of the state.
The agency carried out searches at the residence and
office of Avinash Kumar, a 1993 batch IAS officer, who is
accused of opening 20 accounts in different banks in his name
as well as that of his family members with cash deposits well
over Rs 20 lakh.
Besides Sanjay alias Guddu, an alleged middleman,
Kumar's private Secretary Rajesh Thakur has also been
named in the FIR filed by the CBI in the Special Court here.
Efforts to contact Kumar, OSD to the then Governor
Syed Sibti Razi, did not fructify as he was not responding to
calls made on his mobile phone or house number.
Some foreign liquor bottles were also allegedly seized
during the searches for which the state government has lodged
a separate case against him under Excise Act.
