Guwahati: The Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati would remain closed to devotees for nearly seven hours during the solar eclipse on Friday.

Kamakhya Temple Trust secretary Naba Kanta Sarma said that the doors of the temple atop the Nilachal Hill here would be closed from 8.45 am to 3.38 pm till the end of the solar eclipse.

The solar eclipse falling on the first day of the Hindu calendar month of Magh is scheduled to start at 9.35 am and end at 3.30 pm, Sarma said.

"This is the first time in recorded history that the temple will remain closed for such a long time of nearly seven hours at a stretch due to solar eclipse," he said.
