Ranchi, June 13: Tamil Nadu and Kerala are against any reservation to the people belonging to the economically backward class, the member-secretary of the Commission for Economically Backward Classes (CEBC) said on Saturday.

"We have visited 17 states and had spoken to their officials, NGOs and other persons. Most of them are not in favour of further reservation in government jobs and education, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala," Member Secretary Mahendra Singh told reporters here.

However, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and to some extent Madhya Pradesh have shown interest in the allotment of such reservation, he added.

Singh and senior Research officer PN Ram met Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and Chief Secretary AK Basu during their two-day visit of the state.

The Commission was set up in July, 2006 with a view to seek opinion of all the states, Union territories, NGOs and other individuals on providing reservation to the economically backward classes.

Purushothaman - Kerala
Either there must be no reservation or reservation must go to the really poor. It is against the principle of equality before law to discriminate and thus divide human society along communal and religious lines. It is the method of rule adopted by feudal and imperial societies
