Kolkata: Heavy showers since Tuesday morning
threw normal life out of gear as there was water logging and
traffic snarls in several areas.
"A low pressure area has formed over the West Bengal
coast and due to this, there will be heavy to very heavy
rainfall over districts of Gangetic West Bengal till tomorrow
noon," Regional met director G C Debnath told agency here.
The city experienced 75 mm rainfall in six hours from
8.30 am, Debnath said.
Waterlogging was reported from different parts of the
city and traffic was moving very slowly leading to major
snarls, police said.
Arterial roads like Park Street, Jawaharlal Nehru
Avenue and C R Avenue were water-logged.
Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharjee said water pumping
stations were working fully to remove the accumulated water.
