Bangalore: The counsel for former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was on Wednesday directed by Karnataka High Court to serve copies of her criminal petition seeking quashing of trial court order and dismissing pending cases before a special court here.

Justice K N Keshava Narayana directed the petitioner's counsel to serve the copies of the petition on the Special Public Prosecutor and adjourned hearing to February 18.

Jayalalithaa has filed a criminal petition in state High Court, praying for quashing of the order passed by the trial court in Chennai taking cognisance of the complaint and consequently to dismiss criminal cases pending against her before the Special Court, District and Session Judge Bangalore.

The petition relates to cases pending against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act alleging acquisition of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income.

Jayalalithaa submitted that she was innocent and had not committed any offences of the various charges levelled against her. She also contended that there was non-application of mind by the trial court judge in taking cognisance of the offences.
