Patna: Lok Sabha member from Munger, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan has been elected unopposed the JD-U Bihar state chief for the second consecutive term, party sources said on Saturday.

"Till last date of filing nomination, Lalan alone has been left in the fray," the party's poll presiding officer Chandeshwar Prasad Chandravansi told a news agency.

He said though Lalan was declared elected unopposed to head the party's state unit for the second term in a row, a formal announcement would be made at the state JD-U executive committee meeting here tomorrow.

Lalan's name for the post was proposed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and seconded by state Water Resources minister Jagdanand Singh.

Much significance is being attached to the executive committee meet in the wake of the ruling party performing poorly in the bypolls to 18 assembly seats in Bihar in September, party insiders say.

The meeting would discuss Kumar's report card during the past four years of his becoming chief minister and evolve strategy to further expand and strengthen the party organisation.
