Landfill site project to be inaugurated on Feb 8 in Vadodara

Vadodara: The first phase of Rs 30.98 crore Landfill site project approved under JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Rural Mission), will be inaugurated on February 8, Municipal Commissioner Vadodara Mahanagar Sewa Sadan (VMSS) Manoj Kumar Das said.

The project would come up in the Makarpura–Jambuva locality on the outskirts of the city, he said.

"The approved cost of detailed project report (DIPR) is Rs 30.98 crore that includes Development of Landfill Phase I, procurement of basic tools and machinery, construction of transfer station and Closer of Existing dumpsite at Vadsar," Das said.

The Project was titled 'Design Development and Maintenance of Scientific Landfill' was under taken per MSW (management of Solid Waste) rule 2000.

Regarding the concept behind it Das said, "Disposal of residual solid wastes on land, in a facility designed with protective measures against pollution of ground water, surface water and air fugitive dust, wind-blown litter, bad odour, fire hazard, bird menace, pests or rodents, greenhouse gas emissions, slope instability and erosion for Vadodara city is taken up under JnNURM scheme."

About 25 hectare land is allotted for scientific landfill facility in at Makarpura – Jamba area of the city, Das said, adding capital cost of the first phase of the project was Rs 1360.50 lakh.

"As it is an environmental project, the framework is done in such a manner that post-closer maintenance of landfill site for 15 years is also responsibility of agency. Six tube wells in the periphery of landfill are constructed to check the Ground Water quality periodically, Das said

All other infrastructure like Water supply, Street Light, Road and compound wall are developed, he added.

Construction of additional processing plant adjacent to new landfill site having capacity of 300 MT/day based on integrated Processing Technology is developed, with the intention to minimize waste load on the landfill site and to increase the life span of the landfill site thereby.

This statement is totally wrong because till date VMSS truck empty out Municipal waste in this area this is violation of govement act.
