New Delhi: Advisor to Meghalya Chief Minister
D D Lapang has been relieved of his charges amid allegations
that he was misusing the name of Congress' top brass in the
state.
Resignation of 35-year-old Anish Gandhi, who put in his
papers on April two, was accepted by the Chief Minister,
an official announcement from Meghalaya government said.
"... your request to be relieved of the duties as
honorary non-official advisor to the Chief Minister has been
accepted. You are accordingly relieved of all the duties and
responsibilities of the assignment with immediate effect," the
order said.
While officially it was cited that Gandhi had submitted
his resignation as he wanted to go to Canada, sources in the
Congress party said Lapang had been asked to relieve him of
his official charges for allegedly misusing the name of top
brass of Congress party.
Some media reports alleged that Gandhi had been misusing
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's name, following
which the Meghalaya government had been asked to take action.
When contacted to know the reason of his
resignation, Gandhi refused to speak on the issue.
Meghalaya Chief Minister, who was also contacted, said
Gandhi's resignation had been accepted as he wanted to take
care of his parents in Canada.
Asked about the allegations against his former advisor,
Lapang said there was no documentary evidence to that effect
submitted to him and Gandhi had himself chosen to resign.
