Patna: Over two lakh Mahadalit families in
Bihar would soon get homestead land and state government's
help in constructing their dwellings.
A high level meeting was today convened by Bihar Chief
Minister Nitish Kumar in this regard who directed sub-
divisional officers (SDOs) to identify government land that
could be distributed among mahadalit families.
Principal Secretary (Revenue and Land Reforms) Chandra
Gupta Ashok Vardhan flanked by Principal Secretaries of Food
and Civil Supplies and Personnel departments Tripurari Sharan
and Deepak Prasad said the government had so far identified
3,468.36 acres of government land for distribution among 2.16
lakh mahadalit families in accordance with Bihar Privileged
Persons Homestead Tenancy Act (BPPHT).
The meeting also discussed as to how corruption in
distribution of foodgrain and kerosene oil through Public
Distribution System (PDS) and mutation of land could be
countered.
More than 101 SDOs and officers of Food and Civil
Supplies department attended the meeting.
