Mumbai: Maharashtra Legislature would
soon go online and also have a modern e-library, Assembly
Speaker Dilip Walse Patil has said.
Plans also include setting up a dedicated TV channel
on the lines of Lok Sabha TV, to enable people watch House
proceedings.
Addressing a two-day session conducted by the
Maharashtra branch of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association
yesterday, the Speaker said the new intiatives would help
boost productivity and speed up business of the House.
"Soon, legislators would be able to pose questions and
calling-attention notices online and also avail of the latest
articles in Parliamentary practices using the e-library," the
Speaker told the around 100 MLAs present at Vidhan Bhawan.
There is also a proposal for a Vidhan Bhawan TV
channel, he said.
The session, aimed at making new legislators efficient
public representatives, came a week after four Maharashtra
Navnirman Sena (MNS) legislators were suspended from the state
Assembly for assaulting Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Asim
Azmi.
Senior legislators trained the newcomers in effective
use of legislative methods and maintaining orderly behaviour
inside and outside the House.
Some speaker referred to last week’s violence. "We
must learn how to behave in the House and outside," Deputy
Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said.
"The world watches us and forms an opinion based on
our behaviour," he added.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who inaugurated the
session, announced a grant of Rs five lakh to the Association.
