Lucknow: Major rivers in Uttar Pradesh have
started receding, even as some areas continued to remain
flooded, official sources said here.
While Ganga is receding in Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi,
Mirzapur, Ghazipur and Ballia, river Gomti has started
receding in Lucknow and Sitapur, Central Water Commission
report said.
However, Gomti continue to rise in Jaunpur and Sultanpur,
it said.
Similarly, except Katarnia Ghat (Bahraich), Ghagra was
receding in Ayodhya, Barabanki and Turtipar (Ballia), it said.
Meanwhile, Relief Commissioner SN Shukla said that the
district magistrates of flood affected areas had been asked to
initiate relief and rescue operations on war footing.
The directives have also been issued to ensure cleaning
in the flood affected areas to prevent spread of disease
there, he said.
