Lucknow: With major rivers receding in the flood hit areas of Uttar Pradesh, situation has started improving in eastern districts of the state, official sources said here on Tuesday.

According to a Central Water Commission report barring Sharda and Rapti all the other major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna and Ghaghra were stable and were flowing much below the danger mark.

Sharda river was swelling at two places-- Paliankalan and Shardanagar in Lakhimpur district, whereas Rapti was on rise in Shravasti, Balrampur and at two places in Gorakhpur district, it said.

Budhi Rapti was swelling in Siddharth Nagar, but was still flowing below the danger mark.

Relief Commissioner SN Shukla said that so far over 1.22 lakh people from 1,537 flood hit villages had been shifted to safer places.

"Over 81,000 people are living in camps and relief material is being provided to them," he said adding "Proper arrangements of medical examination, vaccination and treatment have been made and chlorine tablets and ORS are being distributed among people as required," he said.
