Lucknow: With major rivers receding in the
flood hit areas of Uttar Pradesh, situation has started
improving in eastern districts of the state, official sources
said here on Tuesday.
According to a Central Water Commission report barring
Sharda and Rapti all the other major rivers including Ganga,
Yamuna and Ghaghra were stable and were flowing much below the
danger mark.
Sharda river was swelling at two places-- Paliankalan
and Shardanagar in Lakhimpur district, whereas Rapti was on
rise in Shravasti, Balrampur and at two places in Gorakhpur
district, it said.
Budhi Rapti was swelling in Siddharth Nagar, but was
still flowing below the danger mark.
Relief Commissioner SN Shukla said that so far over 1.22
lakh people from 1,537 flood hit villages had been shifted to
safer places.
"Over 81,000 people are living in camps and relief
material is being provided to them," he said adding "Proper
arrangements of medical examination, vaccination and treatment
have been made and chlorine tablets and ORS are being
distributed among people as required," he said.
