Mangalore priest’s body sent for re-postmortem

Kannur: The body of Fr James Mukalel, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Belthangadi near Mangalore, was on Saturday sent for re-postmortem on a complaint lodged by his relatives here, police said.

The body was brought here last evening after post-mortem was done at the Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore yesterday.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of people lined up to pay their last respects to the 38-year-old priest, who was Vicar of the Kudrapadi St. Mary's Church of the Belthangadi Archdiocese.

But the body was sent to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for re-postmortem after his brother-in-law lodged a complaint, suspecting foul play, the sources said.

Senior Vicars of Thalassery and Belthangadi and other archdioceses in Kerala and Karnataka were present for the funeral ceremony which was slated at Vellad St Sebastian's Church cemetery this morning.

The priest's naked body was found on the roadside near his Church.According to police at Mangalore, the priest was suspected to have died on July 29 night.
