Agra: Three women, including two Dalits, were brutally assaulted and their house ransacked by mob for allegedly running a prostitution racket in Malpura village of the district, police said on Sunday.

"Three women were beaten up last evening and their house was ransacked and partially damaged by mob, who alleged that the trio were running a prostitution racket in the village," station house officer, Malpura, Veer Singh said here.

Villagers mobbed house of Baby alias Guddi and dragged her along with Reshma and Meena, they said, adding the house was ransacked and partially damaged.

Police rescued them after receiving information that they were being held captive, Singh said.

"Cross FIRs have been lodged from both the sides. While villagers have lodged a complaint against the three women for behaving in an indecent manner, a case has been lodged by Reshma on charges of assault, using abusive language and issuing threats," he said.

Medical examinations of the trio, who were in the age group of 40-45 years, have been done, the officer added.

"The villagers have alleged that the trio were sex workers and were operating from the last two months, but it is yet to be proved. They should have informed the police about the racket instead of attacking them," Singh added.
