Panaji: A Parliamentarian from Goa on Sunday accused some Russians of moving around without clothes in Morjim beach village (North Goa) and corrupting the mind of locals and children.

"The state government has taken a conscious decision not to prescribe any dress code (to tourists) but during my Morjim tour I was told that some Russians move totally naked, and that they move around in villages with hardly any dress on them," Parliamentarian Shantaram Naik said after his visit to the village.

"Besides corrupting minds of locals they leave a horrifying impression on school children," he added.

The village, a hot spot for Russian tourists, had recently witnessed protests against the foreigners after a local taxi driver was beaten to death by a Russian businessman.

Naik, along with Congress party office bearers visited the village on Saturday to take stock of the situation after constant media reports hinting at large scale discontent against foreigners here.

"I was told that there were number of Russian tourists constantly abusing the locals on some pretext or the other, however, when complaints are filed with the police they side with the foreigners," the MP said.

The Congress leader alleged there were large scale violations of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) by Russians in this village, which requires prompt action by the state machinery.

He said there was need to tighten provisions of Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 so that foreign nationals do not purchase land in Goa illegally and deprive locals of their business and means of livelihood.

The budget provides for the appointment of a committee to examine all financial legislations to bring in reforms in them, he said, adding he would take up the issue of the need to amend FEMA with that committee.

IT IS THE DUTY OF THE LOCAL PEOPLE, THE POLICE AND THE MEDIA TO RECORD IN CAMERAS THE WRONG THINGS COMMITTED BY THE RUSSIANS OR ANY OTHERS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES TO SHOW TO THE CONCERNED EMBASSIES SO THAT OUR RELATION SHOULD NOT BE STAINED WITH THEM. A SINGLE SMALL INCIDENT CAN SPOIL OUR RELATION WITH THEM.
