Coimbatore: With the grand success of the
first edition of 'Coimbatore Vizha' (Coimbatore Festival), the
local chapter of Young Indians, an integral part of CII, is
organising it this year also from Jan two to 10.
This would be an endeavour to bring alive the spirit of
celebration of the city, which would give both residents and
travellers a chance to see the different sides of the city,
its entrepreneurial spirit and life in the lighter vein
during these nine days, Dr Rajeev Kamineni, Chair, Learning
Platform, Young Indians, told reporters here today.
Claiming that the first venture was successful in bringing
alive the strong cosmopolitan traits of Coimbatore and
project the city as a happening, must see destination on the
global map, Rajeev said that over 2.5 lakh people were
directly involved and one lakh indirectly in the 35
events offered during the festival.
With tradition and culture on one side, there would be
different events like nature trek, series of Tamil lectures,
inter-college cricket matches, art and painting,
retrospective of Kongu (as Coimbatore was known) Cinema,
puppet show, history of medicine in Coimbatore, he said.
As a special attraction, a French citizen, who was doing
research on India, would talk on glimpses of Ancient
Kongunadu, Rajeev said, adding that there would be a session
on German influence on Coimbatore, which is known more as an
industrial and textile hub and 'Manchester of the South.
