New Delhi: The Delhi Cabinet today decided
not to allow serving lunch and dinner in the residential
accommodations registered under the Bed and Breakfast scheme
in the city.
The decision was taken after it was found that nearly
operators of 25 guest houses who were earlier paying luxury
tax, registered their guest houses under the scheme to evade
the tax net, a senior official said.
The Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Sheila
Dikshit decided not to allow serving of lunch and dinner by
guest houses registered under the Bread and Breakfast scheme.
The government had launched the scheme to overcome the
shortage of hotel rooms for next year's Commonwealth Games. It
had set a target of bringing 3,000 rooms under the Bed and
Breakfast Scheme before the Commonwealth Games. Presently,
around 1,400 rooms are enrolled under the scheme.
