New Delhi: With the agitation for separate
Telengana state intensifying after the arrest of TRS leader
K Chandrasekhar Rao in Andhra Pradesh, Congress today said it
is not against the formation of the separate state.
"Congress is not against Telangana. Former Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had attempted to
build a consensus on the issue but it could not emerge," Party
spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told reporters here when asked
about the issue.
Normal life has been thrown out of gear at several places
today due to the shutdown called to protest the arrest of the
TRS leader, who continued his fast in prison.
TRS leaders and activists squatted in front of bus
stations in various districts in Telangana region, resulting
in severe disruption of services.
