Lucknow: The opposition on Monday grilled the Uttar Pradesh government over the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state, saying the figures available on the official website showed a 25 per cent rise in crime graph.

The SP and the BJP cornered the government through supplementaries and asked whether it has formulated any specific policy to check the law and order situation. Jokhu Lal Yadav (SP) cited various criminal cases to stress his point.

When the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Lalji Verma, cited figures to substantiate slide in crime rate, Radhey Mohan Agarwal and Satish Mahana (both BJP) said the data available on the government website showed a 25 per cent rise.

The BJP asked if there was any move to set up the state security commission.

Ambika Chaudhary (SP) asked whether the government had issued any specific order for reservation in the post of police station incharges for minorities as it was done for the Scheduled Castes.

Dissatisfied with the minister's reply the SP MLAs staged a walkout in the House.
