Noida: Over 220 people who used motorcycles to commit crimes were arrested in this satellite township of the national capital in the past four years but statistics show only three of them were convicted so far.
According to a senior police official, as many as 222 criminals were caught between January 2006 to November 15, 2009 in connection with 134 cases in this township.
"No one arrested this year or last year were convicted. While one person was convicted in connection with a 2007 case, two were convicted in cases related to 2006," the official
said.
He said there has been an increase in the number of crimes committed by bikers here.
Forty-one cases involving biker gangs have been reported here this year till November 15, surpassing last year's total figure of 34, the official said.
While the figure for 2007 was 31, it was 28 in 2006.
According to the official, 75 persons were arrested in 41 cases this year so far while last year, police caught 53 bikers involved in crimes in 2008. The figures for 2007 and 2006 were 49 and 45 respectively.
"The Noida Police is working in a planned manner to stop such crimes. Crime mapping of incidents time-wise and place-wise has been carried out. The mobile patrolling in
vulnerable areas has been increased," the official said.
