Kanpur: A day after President Pratibha Patil met twin sisters Shruti and Gore, suffering from a rare bone disorder, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday gave a financial aid of Rs one lakh each to them.

The 18-year-old girls suffer from osteogenesis imperfect, an incurable genetic disease due to which they cannot stand or walk.

The teenagers met Patil, who was here to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of IIT-Kanpur, yesterday and appealed for financial aid for their treatment, following which the President asked the state government to provide help to the girls.

At a function in circuit house today, Health Minister Ananth Kumar Mishra presented two cheque of Rs one lakh each to the girls.

The sisters, who are only two feet tall, was also awarded the prestigious National Bal Shri award last year.
