Thrissur: A physically challenged student
of a polytechnic was allegedly beaten up by his seniors when
he resisted their attempt to strip him during ragging.
Six students have been taken into custody in
connection with the alleged ragging of 23-year-old hearing and
speech impaired Nandakishore of Sree Rama Polytechnic last
week, police said on Monday.
The victim, who was a first year student of the
college, was hospitalised after the incident.
In his statement to the police, Nandakishore alleged
that his hostel mates tried to forcibly strip him and he was
roughed up when he resisted.
Hailing from a poor family, Nandakishore had gained
admission into the college under the physically challenged
quota. He was ragged by his seniors in the hostel on the very
first day of his college on Wednesday last.
His mother came to know about the torture her son had
undergone when she went to visit him on Friday last. She
immediately complained to the hostel staff about the incident.
The principal of the college was soon informed of the matter
and the youth was sent home.
He was taken to the hospital yesterday after he
complained of severe body pain, police said.
