Mumbai: Unit 6 of Rajasthan Atomic Power
Project (RAPP-6) at Rawatbhata in Chittorgarh district was
synchronised to Northern Grid on Sunday, Nuclear Power
Corporation (NPCIL) here said.
After the authorisation from the Atomic Regulatory
Board (AERB), the 19th nuclear power plant of the country was
synchronised to the grid at 13:53 hrs, General Manager,
Corporate Communications of NPCIL, Ranjit Kakde said.
RAPP-6 went critical (first chain reaction) on January
23 this year.
The unit power level of this 220 MW indigenous
Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor will gradually be increased to
full power after completion of mandatory tests to ascertain
safety and reliability and the power will be shared by the
beneficiaries of Northern electricity Region.
It has been designed and built by Nuclear Power
Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), a public sector
undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
Indian industry has played a major role in supply of
critical equipment and in meeting construction schedules.
The commercial operation of RAPS-6, which is expected
shortly, will raise total installed capacity of Nuclear Power
in the country to 4560 MW.
