Srinagar: President of Democratic Freedom
Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah was released here this evening,
a day after the government revoked his detention under Public
Safety Act and ordered his release.
Shah was released from Srinagar Central Jail and reached
his Sanat Nagar residence here around 7.15 p.m. today,
official sources said.
The executive member of moderate faction of Hurriyat
Conference, Shah, was arrested on August 22, 2008 during
Amarnath land row and was briefly released in May this year.
He was released on May 22 but kept under house arrest.
Shah was again arrested on May 30 and shifted to a Jammu
jail from where he was brought to Srinagar a few days back.
An official spokesman said that Chief Minister Omar
Abdullah ordered release of Shah in line with government's
policy to release political detenu in view of improving law
and order situation in the state.
"The government has accordingly revoked PSA against him,"
the spokesman said.
Earlier, five top separatist leaders including
chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Asiya Indrabi and National
Front chairman Nayeem Khan were released last month on the eve
of Eid.
