New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi
tonight deliberated on the strategy for the Winter Session of
Parliament beginning Thursday amid signals that the opposition
plans to turn it into a stormy affair.
Gandhi held parleys with Leader of Lok Sabha Pranab
Mukherjee and a number of senior leaders, including A K Antony
and Ahmed Patel at a time when BJP has announced plans to make
matters difficult for the government in the session from the
word go.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal, his deputy
V Narayanasami and several other Cabinet ministers were
present in the meeting with the party president.
BJP has planned to bring an Adjournment Motion in the
Lok Sabha on the first day on the Sugarcane (Control)
Amendment Order, 2009, against the UPA government. It would
also raise the Madhu Koda and Spectrum scam issue among
others.
The opposition would also raise issues like rising
prices, plight of Tamilians in Sri Lanka, 3-G spectrum issue,
climate change, foreign policy - especially vis-a-vis China.
Maoist violence on which the Left parties and
Trinamool Congress are at loggerheads is also likely to
generate heat in the month-long session.
The issue of growing strains with neighbouring China
is also expected to come up with a section of the opposition
upset with the way Beijing was flexing muscles and giving
wrong signals to New Delhi.
