Sonia orders probe into rejection of NREGS job applications Rae Bareli: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday took strong exception to the alleged rejection of over 15 thousand applications for job cards under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in her constituency and asked Rae Bareli's District Magistrate to hold an inquiry into the complaints.

The AICC chief issued the directive while chairing a meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee to review the progress of the centrally sponsored schemes during a day's visit to her parliamentary constituency here.

Congress MLA Shiv Ganesh Lodhi, who also attended the over two-hour meeting, told newspersons that the Congress president has asked the DM to probe on what basis these applications had been turned down.

Gandhi also asked the DM to look into the complaints regarding quality of roads constructed under the Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).

She also reviewed the progress of Rajiv Gandhi rural electrification scheme besides the other centrally sponsored schemes during the meeting.

After the meeting, Gandhi visited the site where Congress party's multi-purpose building is being constructed and on the way heard the problems of party workers as also locals and took their applications.
