New Delhi: Rumblings within Congress unit of Jammu and Kashmir further worsened on Saturday after eight MLAs and two Legislative Council members met here and demanded ouster of state unit chief Saifuddin Soz.

The MLAs and MLCs met under the leadership of Chowdhury Aslam and accused Soz of being hand-in-glove with PDP and was making attempts at destabilising the alliance in J&K.

Senior leaders of the party said that it was decided to request Congress President Sonia Gandhi to institute an inquiry into alleged embezzlement of election funds and said a Central team be sent to every district to probe allegations against the state party leadership.

Besides Aslam, Abdul Gabi Vakil, Viqar Rasool, Mohamamd Sharief Niaz and other leaders who attended the meeting resolved that "Soz has failed to keep the party untied."

The leaders alleged that said that senior Congress persons were forced to leave the party and surrendered militants and scam tainted people have been inducted and given positions in the party.

Senior party leaders like Mohamamd Maqbool Bhat of Pulwama, Mohamamd Shafi Bandi of Shopian were forced to leave party, they said.

The meeting comes in the wake of Soz's statement where he said that no MLA had been demanding his removal. "Therefore, it was necessary to shatter his illusion," a senior leader said.

Soz was not immediately available for comments.
