Bhopal: Congress General Secretary and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh here on Saturday said that Samajwadi Party should not have fielded its candidate for the Firozabad Lok Sabha by-poll as Congress has already declared its candidate for the seat.

Responding to a query on party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's campaign in Firozabad and Samajwadi Patry's criticism on the issue for the first time as both parties avoided attacking each other, Singh said, "there is nothing like that.

"Actually we have fielded our candidate actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar before and therefore they (SP) should not have fielded anyone against us," Singh said.

The former Chief Minister was talking to reporters after distributing "Prashant Award" constituted in memory of noted journalist Prashant Saxena, who died in a road accident in Hyderabad.

"We are winning the Firozabad seat," he said, when asked about the outcome.

On the issue of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan not being able to allocate portfolios to the newly inducted ministers since last three days, Singh remarked "the gang has managed to come back." (referring to the tainted ministers' induction).

Earlier, addressing the function on the occasion of Indira Gandhi's death anniversary described her as a firm and determined leader who had taken many bold decision in favour of the country.

Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Babulal Gaur and senior Congress leader Ajay Singh were also present on the occasion.
