New Delhi: The stolen pilot vehicle of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan was found abandoned near a prominent hotel in south-west Delhi early Tuesday, police said.
The pilot vehicle -- a Bolero -- was found behind Radisson Hotel in Rangpura village in Mahipalpur and police seized it immediately after its spotting, a senior police official said.
The SUV, which has a radio tag allowing easy access to Parliament and some other government stickers, was stolen from the R K Puram residence of driver Niranjan Mohanty yesterday by an unidentified man.
"We found the vehicle abandoned behind the hotel. We think that the vehicle thief might have abandoned the vehicle fearing arrest as police was on the trail," the official said,
adding his associates might have alerted him about the consequences after the "high- profile" theft.
He said the vehicle thief might have not known that the vehicle was part of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman's convoy. "He might have found it easy to steal. But after finding that he may be caught, he abandoned the vehicle," he said.
The SUV was stolen at around 5:15 am yesterday by an unidentified man who drove away with it despite Mohanty giving a chase for some distance.
