Ahmedabad: After a girl at IIM-Ahmedabad
tested positive for swine flu, municipal authorities on Monday
kept the eight girls who shared a dormitory with her under
observation while the prestigious B-school continued with its
academic activities as scheduled.
The girl of the Post-Graduate Programme in Management had
tested positive for swine flu yesterday but she left for her
home in Delhi before the test results were received.
"The girl who tested positive for swine flu at IIM-A
yesterday has been traced. She is at her home in New Delhi,"
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Medical Officer Dr S P
Kulkarni said. The AMC counterparts in New Delhi have been
informed about the case, he added.
"The source from which the girl contracted the virus has
not been detected so far. The girl had not gone overseas."
AMC officials held a meeting with senior faculty members
of the institute including its Director and asked them to take
necessary steps to stop further spread of the disease on the
campus. Some students were seen wearing masks in the campus.
AMC authorities have kept the eight girls who were
sharing the dormitory at the IIM-A hostel with the ailing girl
under obesrvation, Kulkarni said.
An official statement issued by IIM-A said the institute
is continuing with its academic activities as scheduled.
"In the meeting with the IIM-A director Dr Samir Baura
we have explained the precautions to be taken in wake of the
incident," Kulkarni said.
An AMC doctor said posters giving information on swine
flu have been distributed to IIM-A officials and they have
been asked to create awareness among student.
Meanwhile, entry to the IIM-A has been restricted and
only students and visitors who have prior appointment are
allowed to get in.
